Festival of Whispers
In “Festival of Whispers”, Ear to the Earth presents coastal erosion through the lens of cultural erosion. We aurally present the audience with a climate issue, and let them experience it first-hand.
Play Rock Piece by Pauline Oliveros with us! Musicians and audiences use rocks as tools to communicate without words. In this rain-like pattering from the audience, the musicians begins Festival of Whispers, by Matthew Burtner. This work utilizes whispering chains and ocean recordings to form waves of sound in which the collective performs. Slowly, fragments of music erode away until all that is left are whispers and waves, and the memory of what existed.
This project premiered at Delft Fringe Festival in 2023. Ear to the Earth received the Chamber Music Award for their performances.
